view of stone 200

Corsi 200, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 200
Name and quarry location: Mandolato di Carteletto, from the area north of Verona, perhaps Castelletto di Brenzone, Verona, Veneto, Italy; or from Brentónico, Trentino, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Geological description: Fossiliferous burrowed biomicrite limestone crowded with bioclasts, spar-filled bivalve and gastropod shells. Colour mottling is diagenetic.
Comments: The Verona/Vicenza area, Veneto, Italy is indicated as the provenance by the black number painted on the reverse (see pdf of further information about Verona specimens). No place called Carteletto has been located, and Corsi may mean Castelletto, ie Castelleto di Brenzone. Brentónico, in Trentino, about 20km northeast, has been suggested as the correct locality.
Further information: Verona.pdf

Corsi's classification: Class 1. Marbles; Section 2. Veined marbles; Species 12. Veined marbles of Italy
Corsi's text: 71.22 Mandolato di Carteletto
