Name and quarry location: Marmo pavonazzo dell'Alpi, from the Alps  
Geological description: Micaceous ?siltstone (siliceous), with calcite-filled veins.  
Comments: This resembles a specimen in the University of Cambridge collections (Nich.488) labelled 'mandorlato scuro - Upper Jurassic limestone from St. Ambrogio.' presumably a particularly dark ferruginous form of rosso Verona from Sant' Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, Italy.
