Name and quarry location: almost certainly Proconnesian marble, marmo di Proconneso, from the island of Marmara, Balıkesir, Turkey  
Geological description: Coarse-grained calcite marble with grey graphite-bearing banding.  
Comments: This is believed to be Proconnesian marble from the Island of Marmora, Turkey, also sometimes called marmo cipolla, although it is very similar to Hymettian marble (variously called marmo cipolla, Imettio or marmo greco fetido), from Mount Hymettos, Attica, Greece.
