Corsi 733, approx. 145 x 73 x 40 mm, © Oxford University Museum of Natural History

OUMNH Number: 733
Name and quarry location: Sicilian jasper, diaspro-agata di Cefalú, probably from Cefalà Diana or Bagni di Cefalà, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
Geological description: Yellow-brown brecciated jasper with narrow chalcedony-filled fractures and agate matrix, matrix voids filled with crystalline quartz. Pale speckled areas are filler.
Comments: Perhaps from Cefalù, Province of Palermo, Sicily, a locality for jasper according to Jervis (1881), or more probably either Cefalà Diana in the same province where Jervis (1881,1889) indicates several varieties of both jasper and agate have been obtained, or the adjacent Bagni di Cefalà mentioned by Tata (1772).
