Name and quarry location: Gesso di Matelica, alabastro di Matelica, from Matelica, Macerata, Marches, Italy  
Geological description: Crystals of gypsum as dark 'spots', and small fragments of micritic limestone, in a matrix of fine-grained compact gypsum (alabaster).  
Comments: Matelica may be correct. According to Jervis (1889) gypsum was obtained here for the cement industry.
