Verde ragano dell'Elba, from the island of Elba, Livorno, Tuscany, Italy
Geological description:
Serpentinised peridotite with clear dextral shear fabric and augen up to a centimetre across.
Comments:
'Verde ragano' means green lizard, alluding to the markings on this stone. Serpentinites form part of ophiolite complexes on Elba and various other places in the Italian Alps. They can be difficult to distinguish, one from another.
