| Name and quarry location: | Marmo venato di Tivoli, from Tivoli, Roma, Lazio, Italy |
| Geological description: | Biomicrite with scattered dendritic manganese oxides. Side of specimen shows slumping and intraclasts in stylolitised shelly limestone. Note subsequent extensive fracturing, the fractures calcite-filled. |
| Comments: | Tivoli, Lazio, Italy, may be correct. Both compact limestone and the more familiar travertine have been quarried at Tivoli according to Jervis (1889). Nos. 504 and 505 both have 'M.Ven.' [marmo venato?] written on the reverse indicating they were probably supplied by an agent as examples of the same stone. |
